Training should be fun and enjoyable, that’s why training with a friend works really well. Although the sessions will be hard work, I guarantee we will have you both laughing throughout the sessions!
Not only that, but the added bonus is it’s even cheaper! Two of you training together means you can split the cost between you. Win win!
Small Group PT
Small Group PT involves 3-4 people training together in a group. This has become a very popular choice for many people. Pre and Post-Natal Training
Exercising whilst pregnant can be a very daunting thought for many women. A lot of people will tell you that you shouldn’t be exercising whilst pregnant and you shouldn’t be over doing it etc. However, what they don’t realise is just how beneficial training throughout pregnancy actually is!
To name a few benefits, training throughout pregnancy can help with reduced maternal weight gain, reduced muscular discomfort, reduction in labour pain, easier and shorter labour, improved blood circulation, improve body awareness, reduce the risk of lower back pain and help to maintain fitness levels.
So as long as you know what is safe to do whilst pregnant then you will be just fine. I have trained many pregnant ladies from start to finish and they have all said how happy they feel that they were able to train throughout their pregnancies. It has also helped them to recover a lot quicker post birth.
If you are pregnant and would like to commence exercise then please feel free to contact me to discuss further on how I can help and support you. We can work together throughout the 3 trimesters and adapt your training accordingly. I will help educate you on how your body is changing throughout the different trimesters and how exercise can benefit you.
Group Classes
Group classes are a great way to get fit and have fun with lots of other like-minded people as you. The encouragement from other participants in the class can really help to keep you motivated and push you that little bit further. Group classes can work a whole range of skills such as agility, speed, strength, flexibility, co-ordination plus many more.
Group classes can be great for those of you that are just starting out on your fitness journey. They can help with improving your knowledge of how to exercise and can help with building your confidence.
Swedish Massage Therapy
Swedish Massage is the most common and well-known type of massage and the foundation for sports massage. Most people will opt for a full body massage which usually lasts between 45min – 1hr. However, a neck, back and shoulder Swedish massage is a very common choice for many people. Swedish Massage is a gentler type of massage that is designed to help the client relax and unwind from their daily routine. Swedish massage can improve blood circulation which can help you feel more energetic by increasing the flow of nutrient rich oxygen to the muscles. It can also stimulate your lymphatic system enabling your body to process waste products quicker.
Sports Massage Therapy
Sports massage is a much deeper form of massage compared to the Swedish massage.
There are 4 common types of sports massage.
- Pre-event sports massage. This usually takes place about 15-45 minutes before an event. The purpose of this type of massage is to target the muscles that are going to be used within the event.
- Post-event sports massage. This usually takes place within 1-2 hours after the event. The purpose of this type of massage is to normalize the body’s tissues and help with recovery.
- Restorative sports massage. This usually takes place during the training period to help the person/athlete to train harder and prevent injuries from occurring.
- Rehabilitative sports massage. The purpose of this type of massage is to help reduce pain due to injury or muscle tightness and return the body back to full health.
Sports Massage is a great way to help break down muscle adhesions (knots in the muscles) and tension within the body and can improve range of movement within the joints and muscles. Sports massage can also help improve flexibility which in turn will improve performance within physical activities. However, you do not necessarily need to be a sports person to benefit from this type of massage. Anyone can benefit from having a sports massage.
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage can be of enormous benefit not only to the mother but also to the unborn baby. Massage during pregnancy can be a magical experience for both the receiver and giver. It emotionally and physiologically supports a woman during a time when her body is undergoing many changes and can help prepare her body for birth.
As the mothers’ body is placed under stress and tension it puts strain on the joints, ligaments and organs which often causes discomfort and pain. Massage can help alleviate aches and pains and other common health problems associated with pregnancy. As well as this, massage also helps reduce stress levels due to its calming effect. During massage ‘feel good’ endorphins are released by the mother and passed onto the baby. Receiving regular massages whilst pregnant can make the mother more aware of her body. This can help with the ability to relax during the first stage of labour often resulting in shorter and easier births, less pain and a lower rate of postnatal complications (e.g fewer premature births).
A few other benefits of having massage during pregnancy are listed below:
- Stimulation of blood circulation – improves distribution of essential nutrients and fluid to all vital organs especially the placenta, which will feed and aid the development of the baby.
- Lymphatic drainage – elimination of toxins and waste products from the body’s cells.
- Helps avoid varicose veins from developing
- Helps lower or keep high blood pressure balanced
- Helps improve sleep
- Helps with the respiratory system and aids breathing during the pregnancy and birth
- Enhance your relationship with your own body as well as your unborn baby and partner
