My Story

I have always been interested in fitness right from a young age. When I was at school I loved to take part in all the sports activities, with football being my favourite. I would spend endless hours practising and practising to be the best that I could be. From day one I’ve always believed determination and dedication are the two key factors to achieving any goal.

I truly believe this because without my determination to thrive and the dedication to becoming the best footballer I could be, I wouldn’t have been able to sit here today and say that I’ve represented my country by playing for England ladies and also play for my favourite team, Arsenal.

Spending several years at Arsenal and England Ladies meant that I really had to work hard. I gained a wealth of experience and knowledge from some fantastic coaches along the way.

In May 2017 I took on the challenge of running the Milton Keynes Marathon. I had never been a long distance runner before then, I was always more of a sprinter so I knew this was going to be a big challenge for me.

The main reason I signed up for this challenge was to develop myself even more as a Personal Trainer. I had trained several clients in the past for 10km, half marathons and full marathons. Their training was tough, of course it was and I understood that. But when my clients said to me ‘I’ve hit THE wall’ I couldn’t 100% relate to what they meant by this.

This made me think, I HAD to feel their pain, I NEED to experience what hitting ‘THE’ wall felt like!

So I embarked on the same training program I had designed for my clients. I spent endless hours of training, not just running but strength and conditioning sessions as well. Going out on days when I really didn’t feel like running and the freezing cold winter mornings where frost was on the ground. It was tough. One thing stuck in my mind though, I needed to feel what hitting the wall was like.

As the weeks went past, the miles clocked up and I was feeling strong. I got to week 12 of my 16 week program, my target was to run 20 miles! I had run 13 miles the week before and 18 miles the week before that, so I was feeling confident.

Then BANG! I hit ‘THE’ wall!

I was gutted. I didn’t reach 20 miles, my body just wouldn’t work. I just about managed to get to 17.5 miles. My legs wouldn’t carry me anymore, I felt sick and mentally I was weak. It made me feel like a failure. After weeks of feeling strong and hitting every milestone I had set out to reach, this really was hard to accept. I finally knew what ‘hitting the wall’ meant. Mission accomplished in one respect.

However, this didn’t mean that I was going to give up. Later that week once I had got my mindset back on track I got back out there and smashed the 22 mile target I had to reach and boy did that feel good!

On the 1st May 2017, I completed my first ever marathon and it’s all thanks to my clients. Without feeling the ‘need’ to experience their pain to become a better trainer, then I probably wouldn’t have ever signed up for a marathon as it never appealed to me before then. My clients also encouraged me so much throughout the training. They were there to pick me up when I hit ‘the’ wall, just like I was there to pick them up when they experienced it. Finally to see so many of them turn up on race day to cheer me on was an amazing moment for me. I will be forever grateful for that.

You see at Fordy’s Fitness we work together, you are never alone. There will always be someone there to support you, whether its me or the other clients in the group.

When training my clients, I am 100% focused on YOU! I am results driven and totally committed to helping you achieve your goals. I take great pride in what I do and feel very passionate about helping others. I believe I offer a very professional service and have been told by many clients that I go above and beyond the duty of a Personal Trainer.

Over the years I have gained many different qualifications. This has given me a wide skill set to be able to help all sorts of people. So it doesn’t matter whether you are just starting out with your fitness journey or you’ve been training for a while, I am confident I can help you!

I have experience of training all kinds of clients. From clients who want to train throughout their pregnancy and post-birth, those who just want to lose weight and tone up, some who want to get fit for a specific sport or event and clients who have disabilities such as M.S.

That’s another reason why I love my job, the variety of people I’ve been able to help over the years. It is such a rewarding feeling being able to help people like you!

It is very important to me that you enjoy leading a healthy lifestyle and that keeping fit isn’t seen as a chore. This is why I try to make our sessions, fun, innovative and great value for money.

I know there will be many of you reading this that are feeling very apprehensive about getting started and unsure as to what to expect. Please let me reassure you, you are in safe hands! I will support, guide and motivate you every step of the way.

The first thing we will do is arrange to meet for a consultation. This will involve completing a health and lifetsyle questionnaire, medical screening questionnaire, go through goal setting and take measurements/weight if you are happy to have this taken. This gives me a great opportunity to listen to you and understand exactly what you are looking to achieve. This is also a perfect opportunity for you to ask me any questions you may have and for you to see if I am the right Trainer for you.

The information you give me during our consultation will then help me to create a bespoke training program that is tailored especially for YOU! I will also help you with your nutrition as this plays a huge part in achieving any goals. You can exercise all you like but if your nutrition side of things isn’t on point then you will struggle to see results!

This is where honesty comes into it! If you know that you haven’t been great with your eating one week, then please be honest about it so that we can rectify it and move forward. Likewise, if you are carrying an injury or feeling under the weather then be upfront with me and tell me. I can always adapt our sessions to suit your ability/needs on the day. I ask all of my clients to be upfront and honest with me so that I can be the same with them.

If your training/eating is slacking or I feel you could be putting in more effort, then I’m going to be honest with you and ask you to step up your game. Having that mutual respect and honesty with each other really does mean the difference between achieving goals or not! I am not the kind of trainer who will see you once a week for our session and that is it until the next time I see you. I am there to support you as much as you need. I have clients texting, calling, emailing me all the time and I am more then happy with that. I am totally committed to helping each and every one of my clients and I believe in them 100%.

You will also have access to our private members only area. This is full of useful exercise and nutrition tips, general motivation and daily/weekly/monthly challenges where prizes can be won! Everybody in the group started off just like you and now they have become a very friendly and helpful community amongst themselves and would be very happy to welcome you into the group.

Please feel free to take a look on my testimonials page where you can see exactly what my clients really think about training with Fordy’s Fitness!

Thank you for taking the time to read through my page. I really hope this has been of interest and help to you. Please feel free to contact me should you wish to ask any questions.
